TRICK OR TREAT: WHY MADE IN USA IS NOT A TRICK BUT A TREAT

MADE IN USA – ITS NOT A TRICK!

We often hear the slogan “Buy American” and it seems like a sales pitch to push American manufacturing and jobs. However, when it comes to the cosmetics industry, this standard is of the utmost importance.

A major cosmetic brand has been recently under fire for selling makeup laced with cancer-causing chemicals to the public, all while marketing themselves as a company fighting breast cancer.

Have you ever tried to read the labels on your cosmetics? You almost need a PhD to understand and pronounce the ingredients. These ingredients are supposed to make us look pretty, not make us sick. However, many of the cosmetics products made in China and other countries may contain harmful and toxic chemicals, including lead, formaldehyde and octinoxate, found to be linked to cancers and thyroid disorders.

An important thing to note is that some overseas manufacturers may not practice GMP (Good Manufacturing Process) to cut corners to save pennies, which can effect your health. Cosmetics made outside the US (and not made in usa) are barely tested. Even on the FDA’s website, it clearly states that “Not all cosmetics are inspected or sampled upon entry into this country.”

This is not meant to scare you, but it shouldn’t be taken lightly.  With so many options in today’s cosmetic market, we can make smarter choices about the makeup products we choose . Start looking at the ingredients before you put it on and see where it’s made.

Emani Cosmetics Founder, Michelle Doan, develops products with natural, “made in usa” safe and quality ingredients and is completely made in the USA – cruelty free and Vegan – since 1998.  It’s a brand that we can trust to make good business decisions based on our health and safety at the forefront, and doesn’t cut corners that may jeopardize our health to save a penny.
